Join us on the Fishermen and Ezemvelo Wildlife Walk!

The KZN Subsistence fishermen’s forum representing 12 000 subsistence fishermen, together with the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance, will be holding a fisherman’s walk on Durban’s Promenade on the 8th of July 2017 at 8am. The start of the walk will be from Snake park pier, ending at North Pier. The walk will be raising awareness about the Japanese, Chinese and other international trawlers being allowed, by our government, to fish in our waters during the winter months thereby depriving our local fishermen of sardines and shad which are in abundance at this time. Fisherfolks will be raising the issue of access to traditional fishing grounds all along our Indian Ocean Coastline .

We will also be raising awareness, regarding the scale of problems experienced in Ezemvelo Wildlife  with the appointment of people to the board that do not have any experience .Ezemvelo Wildlife are suppose to be the guardians of our wildlife , marine resources and biodiversity yet this is slowly been dismantled with irrational decisions that hard to comprehend and understand  why would our government go this extent .This sort of attitude has played it self out with the air pollution unit in Durban where equipment worth millions of rand’s were deliberately left to not function with spare parts not purchase and equipment not calibrated rending this important function not operational.

We must stand up and speak as one for all species .

Please join us!
